Today, City Council adopted a bold, new sustainable energy strategy titled “The Power to Live Green”. The strategy features a series of guiding recommendations aimed at reducing Toronto’s greenhouse gas emissions to levels set by Council in 2007: six per cent below 1990 levels by 2012, 30 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020, and 80 per cent below 1990 levels by 2050.
The Power to Live Green, describes where we are today, where we need to be in the future, and how to get there. It focuses predominantly on stationary energy in buildings because they are responsible for almost two-thirds of the greenhouse gas emissions in Toronto. Transportation, the other major source of emissions in Toronto, is considered here, as well as in the City’s Sustainable Transportation Initiative.
